DAVID GILMOUR – THE BLACK STRAT
David Gilmour’s “Black Strat” is one of the most iconic guitars in rock history. Gilmour, best known as the guitarist and co-lead vocalist for Pink Floyd, acquired the guitar in 1970 and used it on many of the band’s most famous recordings, including “The Dark Side of the Moon” and “Wish You Were Here.”
The Black Strat is a Fender Stratocaster that has undergone numerous modifications over the years, including the addition of a custom neck and pickups, and the removal of the original tremolo bridge. These modifications have contributed to the guitar’s unique sound and have helped make it a favorite among guitarists and Pink Floyd fans alike.
In 2019, Gilmour sold the Black Strat at auction for a record-breaking $3.9 million. He donated the proceeds to ClientEarth, an environmental charity that Gilmour supports. Despite no longer owning the guitar, Gilmour’s legacy and impact on music and guitar playing continue to be felt. The Black Strat remains a symbol of his incredible talent and influence.
