KORG ELECTRIBE RHYTHM ER-1 DRUM MACHINE
In 1999, Korg released the Electribe R, a specialized electronic drum machine designed to complement the Korg Electribe A bass synthesizer. It features a 64-step sequencer and is MIDI-controllable. Although digital signal processor circuits generate the sound, users can alter it in real-time by utilizing the principle of an analog modeling synthesizer. The ER-1 Mk II version replaces the previous ring modulation of the Mk I version with a cross modulation function that can be applied to percussion synthesizers 1 and 2. The only other updates include new preset rhythm patterns and the metal casing.
Due to its ease of programming and competitive pricing, the ER-1 rapidly gained popularity among DJs and studio musicians. People describe the overall sound character of the Electribe R as synthetic but reminiscent of classic analog drum machines. Nevertheless, the sound is completely adjustable, allowing for real-time human variation and interaction, much like having four simultaneous percussion synthesizers.

Four analog modeling tone generators featured on Korg’s highly acclaimed Prophecy and Z1 synths provide four distinct types of rhythm sounds that the Electribe R can use simultaneously, resulting in unparalleled tonal flexibility. Additionally, it comes equipped with four PCM sounds – crash, open hi-hat, closed hi-hat, and clap – that users can employ as needed to enhance every beat.
