    THE LEGACY OF ROGER LINN

Roger Linn is a renowned American designer and inventor who has made significant contributions to the field of electronic music. He is best known for his invention of the LinnDrum, the first drum machine to use digital samples, which revolutionized the music industry in the 1980s.

Linn was born in Los Angeles in 1955, and grew up in California. He started playing drums at a young age and went on to study music at the University of California, Berkeley. In the 1970s, he began working as a professional drummer and became interested in electronic music and the possibilities of creating music with electronic instruments.

In 1979, Linn started his own company, Linn Electronics, to develop innovative electronic music instruments. His first product was the LM-1 Drum Computer, which used digital samples of real drum sounds, giving it a more realistic and natural sound than previous drum machines. The LM-1 was a huge success and was used on many hit songs of the 1980s, including “Billie Jean” by Michael Jackson.

In 1982, Linn introduced the LinnDrum, which was a more affordable version of the LM-1 and became even more popular than its predecessor. Countless hit records, including Prince’s “When Doves Cry,” featured the LinnDrum.

Throughout the 1980s and 1990s, Linn continued to develop and innovate with electronic music instruments, including the Linn 9000 sequencer/sampler and the AdrenaLinn guitar processor. He also worked as a consultant for other companies, helping to design products such as the Akai MPC60.

In addition to his work in electronic music, Linn is also an accomplished guitarist and has released several albums of his own music. He has won numerous awards for his contributions to the music industry, including a Technical Grammy in 2011.
