MAD SEASON “ABOVE”
Mad Season’s debut album “Above” was a collaboration between members of some of the most influential grunge bands of the 1990s. Released on March 14, 1995, the album featured the unique vocal stylings of the late Layne Staley of Alice in Chains, along with guitarist Mike McCready of Pearl Jam, bassist John Baker Saunders of The Walkabouts, and drummer Barrett Martin of Screaming Trees.
The album’s sound was a departure from the heavier, more aggressive styles of the members’ respective bands. Instead, “Above” showcased a bluesy, psychedelic sound that was both haunting and beautiful. The album’s centerpiece, “River of Deceit,” became a hit and remains one of the band’s most beloved songs to this day.
